KIA ORA…

Let me introduce myself. I’m Mike Dunn, the founder and creative behind Tribal. To me, branding is about building authentic connections and understanding culture. I’m as much an artisan as I am a strategic thinker. Each project, and each new client, presents a new and unique challenge. What I do is about discovering a new path, not relying on what’s been done before.

I enjoy partnering with forward thinking individuals that lead ambitious organisations at a point of reinvention or growth. By combining my 40+ years industry experience and business expertise with a highly collaborative approach, we can uncover new opportunities for your business. Come see me with an open mind, and an ambition to engage.

HOW I SEE IT…

A CREATIVE ATTITUDE.

As a child, I always used my imagination to fuel my games and actions. Being diagnosed with dyslexia put a spin on my journey but it didn’t hold me back. It gave me a unique way of looking at facts, information and solutions.

Artistry came early for me. The ability to take an idea and make it real saw me excel in art, woodworking and metalwork. Practical skills that are still with me today.

I was especially good at Technical Drafting, and it was the coordination of my artistic talent and technical skills that launched me into a career as a graphic designer, brand creative and strategic thinker. Everything I do is based on a solid platform of function before form. It has to work in real life, and resonate with those who engage with it.

A BUSINESS MINDSET.

Early on in life, I learnt that art and business are poles apart. Over the years, I have discovered how to blend it together as a seamless and powerful toolset for businesses to build on. Understanding that the goal is to connect with customers has always been my objective.

Regardless of the timeframe, location or culture, people like to do business with people and it’s been my mission to create appealing, mindful and exciting brand identities for a vast range of business and services across New Zealand and the Pacific.

BRIDGING THE GAP.

Typically, businesses create a logo, put it on things, then promote, market and try to sell everything under that banner. That may have worked in the past, as there wasn’t much competition to worry about and people purchased goods and services differently. Today, things work differently.

With the rise of digital business and internet marketing, the game has changed. Businesses need to think outside the old squares and embrace new ideas, and adopt new methods and tools to succeed. Brand stories, visual identities, and powerful stories about what makes a business unique are the cornerstone of establishing a sustainable platform for connecting with real people.
